What regular types of PCBA substrates are available

Date:2025-03-12

1. FR4 substrate

FR4 substrates are a very common single board type in pcba processing plants. It is a glass fiber reinforced plastic material, commonly used in high-frequency circuits and high-speed digital circuits. FR4 substrate has good mechanical strength and high temperature resistance, so it is widely used in the design and manufacturing process of PCB board. Its insulation performance is also very good, generally can meet the requirements of high reliability.

The common thickness of FR4 is usually 0.4mm, 0.6mm, 0.8mm and 1.0mm, etc. These thickness FR4 plates are suitable for different occasions. Generally speaking, the greater the thickness of the FR4 board, its mechanical strength is higher, and the thicker the board in the electrical properties of the properties will be more stable.

2. Aluminum substrate

The aluminum substrate in PCBA production is characterized by heat dissipation, conductivity, corrosion resistance, low cost, and good processability. It is usually used for LED lighting, high power, high frequency and other circuit boards. Among them, the LED lighting circuit board is mainly due to the high heat generation of the LED, which requires heat dissipation to reduce the temperature, and the aluminum substrate has excellent heat dissipation performance in this regard.

The thickness of the aluminum substrate is typically 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, or the like. In the circuit board with a large amount of heat, the aluminum substrate is a very good choice, which can ensure the long-term operation and stability of the circuit board.

3. FR1 substrate

The FR1 substrate in PCBA manufacturers is a cheaper substrate than FR4, but its electrical properties and mechanical strength are relatively low. Therefore, it is generally only used for low-end PCB circuit board design and manufacturing.

Its common thickness is 1.0mm, 1.2mm, etc. Relatively speaking, FR1 has a lower production cost and is a more economical choice.

4. High frequency board

High frequency board is a very special plate, because it has very good characteristics for signal transmission, so it is very suitable for high frequency circuit design.

High frequency boards are often used in radio frequency circuits, microwave circuits, antenna circuits and other similar circuit applications. Its common thickness is generally between 0.2mm and 0.8mm. Compared with other single board types, the cost of high-frequency board is higher, but its electronic performance is excellent, and the market demand is also large.

In the PCBA design and manufacturing process, the choice of substrate is very important. Different substrate types are suitable for different applications and should be selected according to actual needs. FR4 board takes into account both electrical and mechanical properties and is a common substrate type, while aluminum substrates have outstanding performance in terms of heat dissipation. High-frequency boards are suitable for circuit boards that require high-frequency transmission applications, but their cost is also relatively high compared to other boards.
